Every business has a place where it fits. We help you find it.
Shareloc scores any commercial address in the Netherlands for your specific business, from footfall and rent to permits. It started with our own search for a place to open a studio.
Why we built Shareloc
Shareloc started with a location decision of our own.
Before building Shareloc, we were exploring the idea of opening a boutique reformer Pilates studio and giving independent instructors a space to build their businesses.
We quickly ran into a problem: we didn't know where to start.
Which neighbourhood?
How much rent could the business support?
Was there enough demand, and how much competition was already nearby?
Could we even operate the concept there?
We could find pieces of the answer, but not the answer itself.
While looking for a location for our studio, we started noticing the shops on our own streets. Some units kept changing tenants, some stayed vacant for a long time, and others were thriving. We thought there must be a pattern here.
Permits caught us out early. A location can look commercially right and still be the wrong choice, because Dutch planning and permit rules decide what you are actually allowed to operate there. We learned that permit fit is not a detail you check at the end. It belongs in the decision from the start.
And for a business with limited capital, the wrong location can put everything at risk. Most of the data we needed already existed. What was missing was a clear answer about one specific address, for one specific business.
We never opened the studio. In 2025, we started building Shareloc instead.

We're transparent about our data. Location data is never perfect. We are open about what ours can and cannot tell you, including where coverage is partial and which insights are derived from our datasets rather than measured directly.
We worked together for five years before starting Shareloc, and we still work side by side. Bar leads commercial and operations; Umut leads product and technology. The lines blur by design: Bar's data background shapes the product, and Umut's SaaS experience shapes how we bring it to market.
I’ve spent my career where operations and data meet, building large-scale operational data systems and leading operations and data strategy teams. I like turning data into something people can use. At Shareloc, I lead commercial and operations, and I make sure the data behind every score reflects the decisions our customers face.
I’ve worked across product and service roles, building multi-market SaaS solutions, including in retail. I enjoy turning a real customer problem into a product people want to use. At Shareloc, I lead product and technology, and I spend a lot of time with customers so the product fits how they really decide.
Our vision
Stronger streets start with businesses that fit.
The best location isn't simply the busiest one. It's the one that makes sense for the business you want to build.
For operators
A location where the business can thrive, not just where the footfall is.
For property owners
Tenants that succeed and stay, so units stop changing hands.
For cities
A business mix that works for the people who live, work and visit there.
We're starting in the Netherlands, where we know the market, the data and the local rules best. Operators across Europe ask the same question we did, so we're building Shareloc for Europe.
Part of the Dutch retail and urban ecosystem
A street's mix of businesses is shaped by many parties:
Operators choosing where to open
Property owners selecting tenants
Municipalities and BIZ organisations planning commercial areas
Industry associations researching where retail is heading
Streets thrive when they move in the same direction. We contribute what we know best: evidence about which businesses fit which places.
Cities and commercial areas
We work with municipalities and BIZ organisations on how their commercial areas develop, from filling vacant units to shaping the business mix.
Through ShoppingTomorrow, the annual research programme of Thuiswinkel.org, we contribute to the expert group on AI as a driver of the smart shopping street, hosted by INretail.
